When thinking about medicinal plants, you do not think about cereals first. However, cereals have been used for thousands of years in medical science. Although oat has already been known since the Bronze Age, it has not been given great attention over a long time and thus ranks among the most natural grass seeds today. Due to its large range of applications – e. g. in the treatment of gastro-intestinal complaints and skin problems - oat has been chosen as “medicinal plant of the year” 2017.

In our new oat line we are using colloidal oatmeal obtained from a special type of grain native to Finland in a patented process. It contains omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids as well as a high percentage of beta-glucan. Beta-glucan is an important component of the oat acting anti-inflammatory and antipruritic. Due to its regenerating ingredients, such as avenanthramide, oatmeal reduces itching of atopic skin and interrupts the itch-scratch cycle. Avenanthramide reduces existing skin redness and soothes the skin lastingly. The anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect of oatmeal helps to rebuild the natural and healthy skin barrier.

Important: The oatmeal used in BIOTURM products is colloidal (meaning its particles are finely distributed). These are microparticles remaining on the skin to become effective. These are NOT nanoparticles.
