Bioturm: Intimate care
Human skin and mucous membranes are colonized by different bacteria (e. g. in digestive tract and genital tract) which are responsible for the skin’s health and maintenance of natural functions. Various lactic acid bacteria are responsible for the production of lactic acid. The low pH value between 3 and 4 in the genital area protects against pathogenic microorganisms. This acidic milieu is unfavourable for the growth of common pathogens, thus they cannot reach the upper genital area. For comparison: the skin’s pH value is about 5,5. These lactic acid bacteria in the female genital tract are called “bacteria of Doederlein”, they form the characteristic bacterial flora of the female genital tract. They produce and maintain the natural lactic acid protection system of the female genital tract.
Before and after the menstruation as well as during pregnancy the risk of inflammation is increased. General diseases may cause yeast infections. Antibiotics which are prescribed for different reasons damage the intestinal and intimate flora; diarrhea or fungal infections may occur as side effects. Chlorinated water of swimming pools, saunas or jacuzzis, wet wipes or deodorized and sanitized panty liners might irritate and damage the intimate flora. Hormone changes during and after the menopause have a lasting effect on the intimate flora. The main reason for vaginal inflammation and vaginal discharge is excessive hygiene. Soap, shower gel and shampoo with a high pH value affect the healthy pH balance of the vagina negatively.
It is thus important to keep the natural pH value of 3 to 4 to preserve the protective function of the intimate flora.
Our lacto-intensive active complex is made of organic whey; with its acid pH value (3 to 4) it is ideal to preserve the natural intimate flora. It is highly concentrated in the BIOTURM intimate care products and besides natural lactic acid also contains lactates, free amino acids and trace elements developping during natural fermentation of organic whey with lactic acid bacteria. The protective function of the vaginal flora is thus supported, problems are prevented.
